Accommodation Update – November 2025

Winter brings a host of new openings to Britain’s accommodation scene, with further launches planned for early 2026. From ‘Roaring Twenties’ glamour in Newcastle to eco‑cabins in the Mendip Hills and capsule hotels with rooftop vistas in Edinburgh, London and Bristol are also set for a new wave of hotels that mix contemporary luxury with heritage glamour.

Mad Swans, Bristol, Somerset, England

Opened in October 2025

Tucked away in the Mendip Hills, a 50-minute drive from Bristol, Mad Swans is a new resort that combines eco‑cabin stays with plenty of ‘play’, including a 12‑hole golf course, darts, padel and pickleball, an all-weather driving range and mini‑golf facilities. Co-founded by Joel Cadbury and Ollie Vigors, the duo behind Surrey’s luxury hotel Beaverbrook, the eco-cabins are dotted around the estate, featuring large windows opening onto the surrounding countryside, queen-sized beds, walk-in showers and radios. Culinary highlights include The Potting Shed, which serves dishes including slow cooked beef short rib with black pepper glaze or linguine of Brixham crab. As an alternative, the laid-back Hangout serves house-made pizzas, desserts and cocktails.

Hotel Gotham, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, England

Opened in October 2025

Hotel Gotham brings the glamour of the ‘Roaring Twenties’ to the heart of Newcastle. Housed in the city’s grandest baroque revival buildings, with decor inspired by the decadence of the Jazz Age in the 1920s, the hotel combines marble-clad interiors, velvet furnishings and period lighting to create an atmosphere akin to those seen in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby. Expect plush emperor beds, art deco detailing, and bathrooms with sparkling fittings. By night, guests can pop into the exclusive Club Brass for live jazz or sip signature cocktails in the speakeasy-style Fire Bar. The Siren Restaurant, with a farm-to-fork ethos, serves classic British dishes with a modern twist.

Coming soon…

Hotel Gotham, Bristol, Somerset, England

Opening early 2026

Set to open in early 2026, Bristol’s five-star Hotel Gotham will be another art-deco haven from the Gotham brand. Alongside 75 opulent bedrooms in the Grade II*-listed Guildhall building on Broad Street, the hotel will also feature a restaurant, spa and a rooftop terrace. Following in the footsteps of the flamboyant Manchester original, and the Newcastle outpost (opened October 2025), this new Gotham is set to continue the brand’s signature blend of vintage style and urban luxury.

Waldorf Astoria London Admiralty Arch, London, England

Opening in 2026

The Waldorf Astoria London Admiralty Arch will transform the Grade I-listed gateway between The Mall and Buckingham Palace into a luxury hotel with around 100 rooms and suites, alongside private residences. Managed by Hilton, with support from developers the Reuben Brothers, the project will feature kitchens led by Michelin-star chefs Clare Smyth and Daniel Boulud, alongside elegant event spaces, including a ballroom on the lower ground floor capable of accommodating more than 300 guests.

Cambridge House, London, England

Opening in 2026

Cambridge House will breathe new life to the Grade I-listed former In and Out Naval and Military Club on Piccadilly. Once a hub for Britain’s elite, the 18th-century Georgian mansion is being turned into a 102-room luxury hotel with dining spaces and an Auberge spa. Managed by Auberge Resort Collection, the hotel restoration will retain the building’s historical character and add contemporary touches. The site will also be home to an open-air jasmine courtyard and a brasserie-style restaurant in an elegant Georgian ballroom.

TARKA Edinburgh, Scotland

Opening in summer 2026

Backed by a £10.3 million investment and designed by architect Studio LBA, TARKA Edinburgh will open its doors in summer 2026 as a seven-story capsule hotel with 242 private pods, a rooftop Japanese-inspired bar and restaurant offering views of Edinburgh Castle and the Firth of Forth. In keeping with Japanese role models, the cutting-edge hotel just off St Andrew Square, near Princes Street, will feature a compact design and origami-style metal façade detailing.
