The Rt Hon Sir John Whittingdale OBE appointed Minister for Media, Tourism and Creative Industries

The Rt Hon Sir John Whittingdale OBE MP has been appointed by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as the Minister for Media, Tourism and Creative Industries. He will hold the position while Julia Lopez MP is on maternity leave.

He is also jointly Minister of State in the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology. We would like to welcome him, and look forward to working together on the importance of tourism to the UK economy in the coming months.

The MP for Maldon, first elected in 1992, Sir John was previously appointed Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport from May 2015 to July 2016. In February 2020, he became a Minister of State for Media and Data in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Read his full biography on gov.uk.
