Event Support Programme
The Event Support Programme forms part of VisitBritain's commitment to build the business events sector, supporting the attraction of international business events which align with Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s priority sectors.
VisitBritain has been tasked by government to promote business event tourism through establishment of an Event Support Programme for winning international events, and developing and internationalising growth events already in Britain. Now in its second year (2017/18), this Programme financially supports Live Bids to win international events and Internationalising Growth Events already in Britain.
Types of Event Support
Support available from the Event Support Programme can take two forms – financial support or government advocacy/ ‘soft’ support.
Two grants are available to fund activity this financial year to 31 March 2018.
1. Live Bid Support
Financial support to boost city-led bids for international business events not currently being held in Britain. Guidance and Criteria for Live Bid Support can be found here
2. Internationalising Growth Events in Britain
Financial support for annual events already held in Britain, to grow their international profile and attendance, increasing their economic benefit to Britain. Guidance and Criteria for Internationalising Growth Events can be found here
Application and Grant Process for Financial Support
A short application form specific to either Live Bid Support or Internationalising Growth Events needs to be completed and returned to VisitBritain if your event fulfils the criteria.
An Event Support Fund Awards Panel of Government and Event Industry representatives will consider all applications received to determine the successful grant recipients. Following this assessment, VisitBritain will contact all applicants to inform them of the outcome of their application, or seek any clarifications the Panel requires to make a decision. All applications must fulfil the relevant criteria to be put to the Panel for consideration.
Advocacy/ ‘Soft’ Support
VisitBritain and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) also offers an ongoing programme of brokering 'soft' support/ government advocacy to support Britain's Business Events sector by working with cross-government partners. Support could include, for example: Letters of Support from Ministerial and senior Government figures, Keynote speaker or release of relevant research/white paper. Further information on Advocacy Support can be found on the respective pages for Live Bids or Internationalising Growth Events.
