Event Support Programme

The Event Support Programme forms part of our commitment to support and build the business events sector, in line with the UK Government’s business visits and events strategy and the work of the Events Industry Board. The programme primarily supports the attraction of international business events which align with Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s industrial and academic sector expertise.

Event Support Programme Year Two - Update 

The latest Event Support Programme application window for the first round of awards for year two financial support for live bids closed on 16 June 2017.

Event Support Programme Year One - Successful Applicants

The successful applicants to receive year one funding from our Event Support Programme are listed below. Supporting events being held from Edinburgh to Plymouth, the successful applicants include global events that put the spotlight on some of the UK’s top industries and academic strengths.

Marketing Manchester – EuroScience Open Forum 2016 
The EuroScience Forum in Manchester was a resounding success and attracted more than 3,500 delegates and media to the city. The Event Support Programme funded a 5-week billboard campaign in the arrivals area of Terminals 1 and 3 at Manchester Airport as well as the distribution of brochures from a welcome booth in Manchester Piccadilly train station. This support helped raise the profile of the North West as a leading area for scientific research and facilitated opportunities for businesses looking to invest and develop their products in Manchester.

Newcastle Gateshead Initiative – BIM Show Live 2017 
BIM Show Live, the UK’s foremost event for the building information modelling industry was held in Newcastle in February 2017 and drew 420 delegates from 30 countries to the city. The Event Support Programme helped develop the BIM website into a wider platform for showcasing and sharing UK BIM expertise and offering support to specialist international delegates from key markets.

Marketing Liverpool – Global Symposium on Health Systems Research 2018
The Liverpool Convention Bureau, along with ACC Liverpool, successfully bid to host the Global Symposium on Health Systems Research in 2018. The event, which will be promoted to a global community from the health systems research industry, will draw at least 2000 delegates to Liverpool. The Event Support Programme will help Marketing Liverpool boost pre-event registrations by attending the 2016 symposium in Vancouver with a destination stand and a farewell lunch at the event and distribute promotional material.

Destination Bristol – VR World Congress 2017
Since its inception in 2015, VR World Congress has brought together buyers, sellers, developers and the virtual reality (VR) industry for an annual three-day conference in Bristol. The Event Support Programme supported VR World Congress with marketing and advertising.

Heriot Watt University – European Robotics Forum 2017
The European Robotics Forum was held in Edinburgh in March 2017. The event raised the profile of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh as a centre of excellence for robotics research. The Event Support Programme assisted with marketing and advertising to attract new delegates.

Plymouth City Council – Cybercon 2017
Cybercon is a niche annual event for the global cyber security community held in Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City. The Event Support Programme supported digital advertising and helped attract key speakers and bespoke media to attend and raise the event’s profile. Cybercon is a key event in a series of international events designed to showcase Plymouth’s credentials across the world in the run up to the Mayflower 400 celebrations in 2020.

Midlands Aerospace Alliance – Aero Engine Forum Birmingham 2017
Aero Engine Forum Birmingham is a new event for the global aerospace industry, positioning the Midlands as a prime aerospace industry region for trade and investment and facilitate B2B meetings between UK aerospace suppliers and international buyers. The Event Support Programme will support advertising in key industry press and across specialist industry networks.

Glasgow City Marketing Bureau – European College of Sport Science 2021
Glasgow City Marketing Bureau successfully bid to host the Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) in Glasgow. The event, which will be held at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) from 7-10 July 2021, is expected to attract 3,000 delegates and contribute nearly £5 million to the city’s economy.

Rough Agenda – Brighton SEO 2017
Brighton SEO is a twice yearly, specialist digital marketing conference and training event.  The Event Support Programme is helping the event organisers to increase the number of international attendees across two events in 2017.

London & Partners - Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India 2017
The Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI) is the apex body of private Real Estate developers representing 11,500 Members spread across 23 State level Chapters and 162 City level Chapters in India. London has successfully bid to host the 2017 conference over 3 days with informative and industry knowledge on real estate from key members and speakers.

University of Aberdeen - International Conference on Mechanisms of Action of Nutraceuticals and the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology 2017
The first joint conference between ICMAN and IUPHAR will be held in Aberdeen in September 2017. The international conference will bring together leading academic and clinical researchers from the drug discovery and nutrition fields. The Event Support Programme is supporting international delegate and exhibitor growth, as well as a campaign for delegates to extend their stay and explore other areas of Britain.
