Home to seven bridges, the Angel of the North, and some of Britain’s most vibrant nightlife, Newcastle’s cultural credentials just keep growing. Foodies will fall for its restaurants, markets and breweries, while hipsters can’t get enough of its unique galleries, live music and vintage shops. Sparkling lakes, secret valleys and picturesque stone-built villages make up the beauty of the Lake District. From climbing England’s highest peak to discovering The World of Beatrix Potter or gazing at the skies for breath-taking constellations – explore the Lake District for awe-inspiring experiences. Film fans: you’re in for a treat here too. Explore the Great British outdoors at Derwentwater, where Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) was filmed, and you might just encounter the Millennium Falcon. Or, tuck into lunch aboard a replica Orient Express – seen in Sir Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express (2017) – at Bassenthwaite Lake Station.

Bristol is a city that needs no introduction when it comes to street art. Home of iconic stencil artist Banksy, see graffiti drenched walls round every corner. Wallace and Gromit fans, don’t miss the Cracking Day Out in Bristol mural on Quaker’s Lane, dedicated to the creativity of local legends Aardman Animations and featuring some of the studio’s iconic characters. Look out for UPFEST, an annual urban art festival that brings big names and big designs, indie stalls, and creative workshops to the city. It’s no wonder the city’s street art scene has earned it a place on Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel list for 2026. England’s southwest corner is a surfer’s paradise, thanks to its abundance of golden beaches and laid-back lifestyle. Cornwall is packed with cultural gems too, like the clifftop Minack Theatre or modern and contemporary art gallery Tate St Ives. It’s no stranger to the big screen, either – spot its glorious coasts in The Salt Path (2024). Why not take a hike along the South West Coast Path in northern Cornwall refuelling with fish and chips in Padstow? Explore the remains of the workings of the Levant Mine for a glimpse into Poldark’s (2015 – 2019) world, and look out for St Michael’s Mount from House of the Dragon (2022 –). Beat the summer crowds with a spring-time visit, when you can best enjoy its incredible gardens – from the Eden Project to the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
