MeetEngland new international recovery campaign
MeetEngland has launched its new international recovery campaign for business events, in the lead up to its presence at IBTM World Virtual (8-10 December). With significant upheavel in the events industry, the new ‘Events Reimagined’ campaign is helping international meeting and event planners reimagine the future of events in England, and how the country is creatively adapting to the new normal in business events and incentives. VisitBritain launch new business events campaign: Events. Reimagined
We have launched our new international recovery campaign, ‘Events. Reimagined’, as part of its international hosted buyer partnership with The Meetings Show.
With such enormous upheaval recently, the events industry will see innovation and change unlike ever before. The new ‘Reimagine’ campaign is to help buyers creatively reimagine the future of events here in the UK, and take this opportunity to reboot, refresh and reimagine their future events. It will inspire the buyers with how the UK is creatively adapting to the new normal in business events and reenergises the industry to meet again in new, innovative ways. We will be helping planners reimagine the future business events and incentives here in the UK.
Business Events Webinars
We held the first in a series of Business Events workshops on 29 September. “Adapting to the new norm in Europe, North America and China” gave insights from Business Events’ target markets and the impact of COVID-19 on business events buyers. Over 200 people attended and discussion included the current business events landscape in each region, how buyers are adapting to the new norm, when they may return to placing international business and how the UK business events industry should adapt its strategies for international buyers.
The second Business Events webinar for UK industry took place on 15 October. "The Power of Digital Marketing" led by Fiona Macdonald, Senior Manager Business Events at VisitBritain, with speakers from OMD and Tony Woolacott from VisitBritain analytics. Over 260 registered for the webinar with focus on digital marketing for business events and reach your audience through digital channels.

VisitBritain Launches Virtual Business Events Showcase ‘MeetGB Virtual’
We are delighted share that MeetGB Virtual went ahead with great success. MeetGB is our annual flagship meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) event, which this year is hosted as a virtual educational event.
In proud partnership with MeetEngland, VisitScotland Business Events, Meet in Wales, Tourism Northern Ireland and London Convention Bureau, MeetGB Virtual has been an opportunity for organisers of international events to discover the possibilities available across the UK business events industry.
MeetGB Virtual was split to accommodate both European and North American time zones, starting with US buyers on Wednesday 17 June followed by European and UK buyers on Tuesday 23 June.
The welcome session included a pre-recorded welcome speeches from Gavin Landry, Kerrin MacPhie and VisitScotland, London & Partners, Visit Wales and Tourism Northern Ireland.
The MeetEngland stand at MeetGB Virtual received over 100 unique content views, with strong support from VisitEngland’s new Chair Nick de Bois.Over 50 English exhibitors attended MeetGB Virtual, with one-to-one Zoom appointments with buyers, as well as live chat with other visitors to the event.
The MeetGB Virtual Press Roundtable welcomed 18 international and UK business events media who heard a panel discussion from us and strategic partners. Coverage has reached a potential online readership of over 2 million events professionals, with very positive sentiment on the UK’s business events recovery from COVID-19.
MeetEngland partners with Event Manager Blog to host webinar on mental health in a crisis
On 31 March, MeetEngland partnered with Event Manager Blog (part of Skift) to host a webinar on how event professionals can preserve mental health in a time of crisis, in recognition of the impact COVID-19 is having on the events industry.
Over 600 international event professionals attended the webinar, far exceeding expectations and providing a high number of sales leads for the team. The webinar included speakers from MeetEngland, including Leila Heller and the UK mental health organisation EventWell.
ExCeL London / GREAT Branding partnership
ExCeL London has partnered with Events Are GREAT and the GREAT BRITAIN campaign to spread its brand message and highlight the power of the UK’s events industry, both at home and abroad. The partnership was launched at International Confex 2020 (25-26 February) - the UK’s leading exhibition for event organisers - by wrapping the Platinum Suite with the Events Are GREAT branding.
Business Events proudly launch new Events are GREAT branding
We’ve launched our new Events are Great branding at the PCMA Convening Leaders conference in San Francisco.
During a press conference, we announced our upcoming brand refresh that celebrates the industry’s passion for events and showcasing the many great things that events can achieve in the UK. The new brand speaks to all event planners: Associations can unlock the UK’s unrivalled knowledge, ideas, research, expertise and innovation. Corporate planners can bring alive the UK’s thriving creativity, imagination and entrepreneurial spirit, and incentive planners can drive motivation and reward with the most memorable one-of-a-kind experiences.
Following the press conference we held an afternoon tea event at the Leadership Studio which was sponsored by VisitBritain, an immersive-learning environment created for education, interaction and experience in specific program topics, to showcase the new creatives and raise awareness of what the UK can offer when it comes to business events.
New Business Events website launched to promote UK to international buyers
We have relaunched our Events Are GREAT website, it now offers international buyers a comprehensive guide to business events in the UK. Designed with international event planners in mind, the website includes the latest content on cities, venues, incentive programmes, dining and social options, sector strengths and the convention bureau. Visit it for destination inspiration, learn what’s new in the UK and how VisitBritain can help international buyers.
International Golf Travel Market comes to Wales in 2020
Wales has been confirmed as the 2020 host of the global B2B event, International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), the first time the event will be held in the UK. Brokered by our business events team, the event will take place on 26-29 October 2020 at the newly opened ICC Wales and the Celtic Manor Resort. Thousands of golf tourism suppliers, venues, destinations and buyers will meet and do business over the course of three days.
Britain welcomes One Young World
Following the successful bid last year to host One Young World – the global forum for young leaders – the event took place last week in London.
Supported by the Business Events Growth Programme, the event saw the Duchess of Sussex attend a star-studded opening ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall and welcome thousands of young leaders, entrepreneurs, social change and advocates from nearly 200 countries.
Business Events team host Ambassador Programme workshop in brand new ICC Wales
Taking place over two days, the Business Events team hosted the Ambassador Programme and Event Legacy workshop at the newly opened ICC Wales on 17-18 September.
The workshop was held as part of our programme to increase the skills and knowledge of the UK’s business events sector, a key initiative in the Business Events Action Plan as part of the Tourism Sector Deal.
Facilitated by Caeliam Director, Lesley Williams, covered a number of topics from designing and delivering local ambassador programmes, recruiting ambassadors, understanding the importance of creating a legacy from events, and how to build and sustain your legacy.
Attending from all over the UK, the 32 attendees spent the two days learning from guest speakers Rohit Kulkarni from The British Elbow and Shoulder Society, Karin Burger, Director SPIE Europe, and Amanda Ferguson, Head of Business Tourism at Marketing Edinburgh. The workshop also included interactive sessions where participants shared and discussed their ideas with industry professionals through the ‘share and gain’ session.

New website positions Britain as a leading events destination
We’ve launched our new Events are GREAT website, raising awareness of the UK as a world-class business events destination. Promoting the event capabilities across 21 UK cities, the new site also enables conference and event organisers to submit their request for proposal for prospective events.
MeetGB China hosts over 600 one to one business meetings
27 meeting and incentive suppliers from across the UK attended our inaugural MeetGB China event on 28 September where over 600 one to one business meetings with Chinese buyers took place.
The event was preceded by educational trips around the UK for the Chinese buyers who visited leading China- ready attractions, venues and destinations for the incentives and meetings sector.
