About the National Tourism Open Platform
The National Tourism Open Platform* is the national platform for the collation and distribution of information on the UK’s tourism product. The proposition is:
Comprehensive, high quality product data - the platform comprises details of accommodation, attractions, events and other products held in the National Tourism Product Database with over 43,000 accommodation providers, 13,000+ attractions and over 6,000 events. The platform provides comprehensive and up-to-date listings on VisitBritain’s international websites and Visit England’s domestic and international websites. It also distributes to third party channels (see section below on onward distribution). The product data is collated and managed by our tourist board partners across the country. Over 1,000 destination guides - the guides include inspriational editorial, quality imagery and top “Must See & Do's”. This rich destination content is supplied by our tourist board partners across the country and managed by the team for distribution on VisitBritain’s websites and for onward distribution.
Real time availability / pricing on 9,000 accommodation providers - this availability service is checked by the 'Polling Service' from commercial and tourist board booking service operators. Consumers are then ‘referred’ to booking service operators to complete their bookings. The platform provides this availability service to VisitBritain’s websites and also to public and private sector partners. Click on the 'availability service' link on the left to find out more.
The white label product search - the search enables third party channels to provide visitors to their website with the ability to search for (and to book via the availability service) product from the National Tourism Product Database. The white label product search is alraedy live on a wide range of websites including our own consumer websites.
Other distribution access
The platform distributes tourism content to both off and online channels. All the content outlined can be distributed through data feeds, API access or through the white label product search.
The platform also provides shared technology services to the tourist boards.
